20-day chain

Pick your length

10 days — 2 pages

Quick build, one sitting. Letter or A4.

15 days — 2 pages

Shorter chain, same morning routine. Letter or A4.

20 days — 3 pages

A full count with a longer list of prompts. Letter or A4.

How to make the chain

  1. Print at 100%. Measure the 1 inch / 2.5 cm bar at the bottom of page one.
  2. Cut the rings. Cut on the dashed lines. Cut off the outside white edge too if you like.
  3. Color (optional). Do it now, before gluing.
  4. Loop and glue. Curl ring 1 into a circle with the tab inside and glue or staple. Slide ring 2 through ring 1 and close it. Repeat in number order.
  5. Hang it. Clip or tape the top of ring 1 to a wall, shelf, or door frame. Leave room so the bottom ring hangs free.
  6. Tear each morning. Pull the bottom ring, read the prompt, and do it together.

Two-minute prompts, by age

Ages 5–7 (K–2)

Count the rings left out loud, read the prompt together, and act it out.

Ages 8–10 (grades 3–5)

A student reads the ring and picks a partner to try it.

Ages 11–12 (grades 6–7)

Use the prompt as a one-line journal starter or quick pair-share.

Not every prompt fits every day. Swap one with a spare ring and write your own.

Print tips

  • Pre-cut for ages 5–6: an adult cuts, children glue.
  • Use a glue stick for paper, or a stapler for speed.
  • Card stock makes sturdier rings; regular paper is easier to tear.
  • Set aside 15–20 minutes to assemble a 10-day chain.
  • On A4 the rings are 190 mm wide, so the file uses 10 mm side margins.

Ages 5–12. Tools: scissors, glue stick or stapler. Use: classroom wall, homeschool, library, family fridge.

FAQ

How wide is each ring?
Each ring is 7.5 in × 1.25 in (190 × 32 mm) with a 0.5 in (12 mm) glue tab. Eight fit on one page.
Can I use the chain for a different number of days?
Yes. Use fewer rings or add the spare blank rings and write your own. If the chain is too long, trim from the highest numbers.
Why does my ring measure the wrong size?
Your printer scaled the page. Measure the 1 inch / 2.5 cm bar. If it is off, print again at “Actual size” or 100%, not “Fit to page”.
